    331763 - Tennis Beginner 13-18

    Brecksville Recreation/PEAK Youth Tennis Camp

    We are excited to announce we have partnered with PEAK Performance Tennis to offer youth tennis lessons through the Brecksville Recreation Department this summer. Classes will be held at the outdoor courts located by City Hall.
    Beginner - Focus on teaching proper fundamentals, volleys, groundstroke, serve, etc. Hand and eye coordination drills in combination with aiming and control drills. Progressions which will advance from learning how to hit the ball, to consistently hitting it over the net, to placement on the court. As the skills improve, we will be challenging players with live ball drills and games. If we have repeats as a second and third week, aside from improving the fundamentals, we also are focusing in learning how to construct a point and play real tennis (with serve).
    Program Policies
    *Participants must provide their own racquet. Junior rackets are recommended for 6-7 year olds.
    *Class sizes will be limited to 10 players to provide optimum instruction per participant.
    *If weather is inclement, call 546-2300, ˝ hour before class to determine whether class will be held.
    *Rainouts will be scheduled for Fridays.
    *No refunds are available. Credits only are given.
    *A $5.00 cancellation fee may be charged if withdrawn within one week of class.

    We are excited to announce we have partnered with Center Court Tennis Club Camp to offer youth tennis lessons through the Brecksville Recreation Department this summer. Classes will be held at the outdoor courts located by City Hall.

    Intermediate - As the kids graduate from beginner tennis or already have some experience, we will focus on developing a solid foundation (trying to avoid bad habits). At this stage the player should have a basic understanding of the game which will allow us to work on more challenging tasks like:
    *Hitting the ball to different targets.
    *Trying to hit a target on a moving position.
    *Live ball drills with a more complicated setting (changing direction, multiple positions, etc.)
    *Be able to address different strategies and set ups.
    *More competitions with real tennis in mind, and advice how to practice in order to keep improving.
    *If the situation permits do a little tournament (just for fun) in the last day to experience competition in a different way.


    Program Policies

    The Brecksville Recreation Department in collaboration with the Run For Your Life program offers a Cross-Training Program. This program is designed for speed training, strength training, plyometric training and conditioning. Bring your own water bottle, running shoes, jump rope and workout mat.     341542 - Flag Football

    The youth flag football program is for players in 3&4 grade, and 5&6 grade. This league consists of teams from North Olmsted, Fairview Park, Bay Village, Westlake, and Middleburg Hts. Games will be mostly be held on Saturday mornings and teams will play at both home and away sites. Practice held in Brecksville begin in August and times will be determined by the coach. There will be 6-8 week regular season with a single elimination tournament to close the season. Trophies will be awarded based on tournament results.
    You must furnish your own cleats
    Jerseys with flags and mouth guards will be purchased by the City of Brecksville.

    342961 - Soccer - Youth Coed

    Brecksville Soccer Academy

    Tony Niccoli introduced us to this widely-acclaimed program, which incorporates all the Best Practices recommended by the US Soccer Association. The written curriculum provides age-appropriate activities based on the cognitive, psycho-motor, psycho-social and emotional stage of each age-group. Each session will be instructed by BSA staff and Brecksville - Broadview Hts. High School Soccer players.

    U3 Academy (ages 3) is a parent-child program for children ages 3-4 who are interested in having fun and learning the fundamentals of soccer. The program allows children the opportunity to work one-on-one with a parent, teaches a variety of soccer skills, offers exercises that become increasingly more challenging as the class progresses children show improvement, and thwe class is taught with fun, safe, developmentally appropriate equipment.

    U5 Academy (ages 4 and 5) will engage in the ABCs of player movement—Agility, Balance and Coordination. The ball will be used in most activities to facilitate body-movement and ball control. These players will play 1v1 and 2v2 games. Constant activity will be the target, so balls will be in continuous play.

    U7 Academy (ages 6 and 7) will engage in small-sided games with 4v4 being the best format, but 3v3 and 5v5 might also be employed for older players. Their training will be games-based with a variety of competitive games that will challenge players to learn the tactics of the game—how to get a team shape; how to avoid pressure by passing back; how to defend; how to switch the ball to the side with less pressure.

    U8 League (ages 7 and 8) will serve as an introduction to traditional league play in a 4v4 setting. There will be one weekday train session and games to be played on Saturday mornings. Teams will travel to Shaker Heights and surrounding communities, games will be played on the upper grass soccer field at the Blossom Hill Facility and away sites. Teams will be formed and volunteer coaches will manage teams. This division will help grow the "club" concept and stress individual player development and team concept. Practices to begin in April or August depending on season.

    An explanation of what we do and why we do it will be provided to parents who will be able to comprehend our long-term player development scheme. We have found that the players coming out of our Academy are well-prepared to play 6v6 and the emotional hook has been set. The passion to compete in a team-sport will be imbedded. All sessions meet at the Blossom Hill turf field.

    Players are responsible for providing their own ball, shin guards and cleats. Cleats are optional at this age.
